The eighteenth project of the Dream Catcher Foundation in Cambodia is the construction of the following Theacher accomodation:
O Kroch Primary School, Trapeang Prasat District, Oddar Meanchey Province, Cambodia

We built the O Kroch primary school in 2012 and now we are adding accommodation for the teachers. Everything is measured and marked first.
Project description:
In 2012, we constructed a concrete school building with five classrooms at O Kroch Primary School in O Kroch Village, Trapeang Prasat Commune, Oddar Meanchey Province, Cambodia. The school is located in a remote area, and teachers commuting from distant districts faced poor living conditions. Rural communities still face deep poverty due to uneven development, corruption, and self-interest.
Due to this development in school infrastructure, their student populations have grown progressively. The communities and school management committees also put great effort into maintaining the prosperity of their schools. However, transportation has not improved yet; access to these schools remains inconvenient, with roads being nearly impassable during the rainy season due to mud and deep puddles. This makes daily commuting extremely difficult for teachers, often requiring multiple types of vehicles and lengthy travel times. Over time, these barriers diminish a teacher's commitment to the school, leading to high turnover rates, and affecting the quality of education provided. The existing teacher accommodations cannot alleviate the issue because of their poor building structures and cramped space. Thus, providing on-site, upgraded teacher accommodations is urgently needed to restore well-being and motivation of teachers. With these new facilities, teachers can fully dedicate themselves to educating students without the added stress of unreliable transportation and poor living conditions. It is not only a step toward improving teachers’ living standards but also a vital investment in the future of education in these remote areas.
To resolve these challenges, we provided support for the construction of new teacher accommodations. This initiative directly benefitted 16 teachers (6 males, 10 females). The improved living conditions not only enhanced the quality of life for the teachers but also represented a vital investment in strengthening the educational future of these remote communities.
Implementation:
As with all our projects, the local community will be involved in the construction process. Involvement of the community is critical, as it encourages a stronger sense of ownership over the project. The community will contribute by helping to fill up the foundations, and providing electricity and water for the construction. Payments will be made in instalments according to the progress of the construction with 5% of the total cost held back for 6 months, as a guarantee for the quality of the work.
from November 2024 to mid-January 2025
